A small Greek Island that you can cross by bus in 30 minutes, surrounded by warm turquoise sea. There are only 3 departure gates at the tiny skiathos airport and crowds gather at the end of the short runway that almost meets the sea to feel the blast of a landing 757. It sounds like the perfect sleepy island, and for the most part it is, but there is something else happening, something new. Modern Greek artisan food, boutiques showcasing new designer makers, restaurant interiors that would make farrow and ball look twice. All this with Greek charm, long hot summer days and sparkling sandy beaches made my Few days on the island my favourite escape yet. I just wish I had picked up some hand made leather sandals. Oh well, I will just have to go back to get them!
